Lieutenant Joel Hash started his career with the Wytheville Department of Public Safety in September 1985 as a Patrol Officer. He was promoted to Sergeant in 1993, promoted to a 1st Sergeant in October 2006, and promoted to Lieutenant in February 13, 2008. He received his AAS Degree in Police Science from Wytheville Community College in 2000. He also received a Bachelors of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from Bluefield College in 2002. Lt. Hash performs a variety of routine and complex public safety duties in the administration of the police department. He also oversees the process of updating accreditation files and proofs of compliance for the agencies accreditation program that is mandated by the Virginia Law Enforcement Professional Standards Committee. Lt. Hash also assists the Operations Captain in the supervision of patrol, investigations, traffic regulation, and related law enforcement activities.
