The career firefighters are under the supervision of the Headquarters Captain. They are responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of the vehicles and equipment. They also perform yearly inspections and testing of the 400+ fire hydrants that are located in the Town.

John Eastwood John has been with the Fire Department since November 1982 when he joined as a volunteer. He became employed by the Town of Wytheville in 1985. He has been with the WDPS since 1994. John is certified as an Inspector II through the Virginia Department of Fire Programs, Master Inspector through the Department of Housing and Community Development, and he is certified in Virginia to inspect Amusement Devices. Randy Kirby Randy had been with the volunteer fire department for 3 years before he was hired as a career firefighter in 1984. He is certified as an Inspector II with the Department of Fire Programs. He is also a Fire Instructor III with the Department of Fire Programs, a General Instructor with the New River Criminal Justice Academy, Child Safety Seat Inspector, EVOC Instructor, and certified Dispatcher. |

Ray Matthews Ray has been with the Fire Department since June 1983. He had been with the volunteer department since March 1982. He is certified as an Instructor I with the Virginia Department of Fire Programs, General Instructor with the Department of Criminal Justice, EVOC Instructor, Child Safety Seat Inspector, and certified Dispatcher. |

David Morris David has been with the Wytheville Fire Department since January 2000. He entered the fire service in July 1967 as a volunteer with the Max Meadows Fire Department of which he is now the Chief. Prior to his employment with the Wytheville Fire Department, he worked at the Radford Army Ammunition Plant Fire Department from 1981 - 1999. He entered as a firefighter and left as a Captain. David is an Adjunct Instructor for the Virginia Department of Fire Programs. He is also a certified Dispatcher. David received his AAS in Business Management from Wytheville Community College and a Certificate in Fire Science from New River Community College. |

Kathy Anderson Kathy has been with the Wytheville Fire Department since 1982. She was a volunteer until January 2000 when she was hired as a fire engineer. As a volunteer, Kathy served as Secretary, Treasurer, Training Officer and Captain. She is certified as an Adjunct Instructor and Fire Officer II through the Virginia Department of Fire Programs. She is also a certified Dispatcher. |
