Stan K. Massie is the Building Official for the Town of Wytheville. He is one of a select group of Master Code Officials in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Stan came to the Town in 1994 with a background of five years as a Building Official for Princeton, WV and twelve years as a professional firefighter with Bluefield, WV. He is also a former electrical contractor, and Master Electrician in Virginia and West Virginia.

As the Building Official, Stan is responsible for receiving and reviewing all plans for construction within the corporate limits as well as conducting field inspections in all construction trades including framing, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and masonry. He acts as an assistant to the Town Manager for Zoning compliance, (Certified Zoning Officer); as assistant to the Town Engineer for Soil Erosion and Sediment control programs (E&S Combined Administrator); and works closely with Public Works for utility connections and backflow prevention on water services as the Certified Cross-connection Inspector/Tester.

Finally, Stan is active on the local, state and national level with Code Development and Training. He organizes and provides instruction classes for local contractors and is Chairman of Region I for the Virginia Building and Code Officials Association and appointee to the Virginia Department of Housing Training Advisor Group. Stan is a voting delegate to the National Conventions of the International Code Committees, who write the International Building Codes.
